Pascal's co-star Gabriel Luna, who plays Joel's brother Tommy, recently announced the start of production on HBO's The Last of Us with a photo featuring him, Pascal and Nico Parker, who was cast as Joel's daughter Sarah. According to series co-creator Neil Druckmann, Season 1 will adapt the original video game's storyline, with certain events remaining identical to how they played out in the game while others will be altered due to the shift to television. The show's first episode will be directed by Kantemir Balagov, who took over directorial duties after Chernobyl's Johan Renck left the project, with Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi set to helm other episodes in the season.

Released in 2013 by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us follows Joel, a grizzled smuggler who must lead Ellie, a young girl immune to the mutated cordyceps fungi that ravaged humanity for two decades, across a post-apocalyptic United States. Split into four season-based chapters, the game received universal acclaim and multiple awards following its release, with a sequel, The Last of Us Part II, coming out seven years later in 2020. While praised by critics, the game's story sparked intense controversy and backlash from gamers over the direction it took with Joel and Ellie's older selves. Despite this, The Last of Us Part II went on to the win the 2020 Game of the Year award and currently holds the record for the most GOTY awards of all time, a record previously held by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, HBO's The Last of Us stars Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Pedro Pascal as Joel, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene and Nico Parker as Sarah. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
