HBO Snags Dan Clowes’ Landlord

Cartoonist Dan Clowes is no stranger to the world of moving pictures. He adapted his comic book story Ghost World into a film in 2001, and did the same in 2006 with his memoir Art School Confidential. However, his latest Hollywood project will be an all-new venture.

Variety reports that Clowes has set up an all-original series at HBO called The Landlord with Little Miss Sunshine and Ruby Spears directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. The half-hour series focuses on a Utopia-obsessed college professor who moves his family to a small town in California after inheriting an apartment building.

“We just looked over the script and it’s still very early, but we’re excited by trying to do something in TV, particularly at a place like HBO, where you can have nine hours instead of two,” Dayton said.

There’s no word yet on when the series will officially go into production.
