HBO given a series order to Westworld, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's adaptation of the 1973 Michael Crichton film. The cable channel made the announcement today on Twitter.

Produced by J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk's Bad Robot Productions, the series stars Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford, an inventor who operates an exclusive amusement park for adults populated by lifelike robots.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, previously announced cast members James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton will play some of the park's androids, who "can be killed off and return with completely different personas, allowing actors to play many characters." They're joined by the likes of  Ed Harris, Miranda Otto and Jeffrey Wright.

Westworld is set to premiere next year.
