Aquaman: King of Atlantis showed a hint of the action to come in the James Wan-produced animated series for HBO Max.

During a sizzle reel for WarnerMedia's new banner, "Redraw Your World," created to debut "more than 300 hours of original footage" on its Cartoon Network and HBO Max channels in 2021, a quick splash of footage was shown. The upcoming animated DC series is rooted in the warring world of Atlantis as Arthur Curry adjusts to the duties of being King.

Towards the end of the 2021 sizzle reel, a quick look at both Arthur Curry/Aquaman and Mera was shown. Both characters strike an adventure-ready pose, hinting that Curry's duties as king will be action-packed. Curry appears bearded with electrifying green hair whereas Mera sports bright red hair with a devilish smirk, resembling their Aquaman-comic characters in appearance and in their commitment to fighting side-by-side.

Wan will executive produce the animated series through his Atomic Monster production company. The series will be split into three parts; however, there's no news at this time as to when each part will release on HBO Max.

The series begins with Aquaman’s first day on the job as king of Atlantis and he’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up -- Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!
