Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins confirmed the DC film will be HBO Max's first title to stream in 4K UHD.

"Excited to announce that [WW84] will be the first film on HBO Max available in 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision AND Dolby Atmos!" Jenkins tweeted. "Can’t wait. IN THEATERS on Dec. 25th and exclusively streaming in the US on [HBO Max]. PLEASE find the biggest and highest quality screen you can!!"

After numerous release date changes, many of which stemmed from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Warner Bros. confirmed Wonder Woman 1984 would be available on HBO Max Christmas Day at no additional cost. Moreover, the film will also be available in theaters where they're open, though it will premiere earlier outside of the United States.

In October, Jenkins said, "Direct-to-streaming is not even being discussed. We are still 100% behind the theatrical experience for (Wonder Woman 1984) and supporting our beloved theater business." However, Tenet's poor performance proved to be the tipping point for Warner Bros.

"As we navigate these unprecedented times, we've had to be innovative in keeping our businesses moving forward while continuing to super-serve our fans," WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff said. "This is an amazing film that really comes to life on the big screen and, working with our partners in the exhibition community, we will provide that option to consumers in the U.S. where theaters are open. We realize that a lot of consumers can’t go back to the movies due to the pandemic, so we also want to give them the option to see Wonder Woman 1984 via our HBO Max platform."

"We appreciate how patient audiences have been and given the great anticipation around Wonder Woman 1984 we are grateful to be able to make this terrifically entertaining movie widely available in these challenging times," said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 25, while debuting theatrically in international markets starting on Dec. 16. The film will be available for a month on HBO Max in the U.S. included at no additional cost.
