Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan is developing a Superman limited series for HBO Max in which he may star as Val-Zod.

According to Collider, Jordan and his Outlier Society production company have already hired a writer to pen the script, though it's unclear who. As for Jordan himself, it's said that he may play the title character but hasn't committed yet. Jordan and Outlier Society are also currently developing a Static Shock movie for Warner Bros. and DC Films.

Jordan's name has been floated as a replacement for Henry Cavill's Man of Steel for a number of years, but Jordan himself has repeatedly played coy on playing Kal-El or any other version of Superman. He even weighed in on those rumors again recently after it was announced that J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates were developing a Black Superman movie. "I mean I don't know," Jordan said in April. "I don't really know what is going with that in particular, but I think that everybody's wants and desire to see Black leads in heroic roles are really really important. Let's just see how things shake out."

"I'm flattered that I keep coming up in conversation in these rumors to play characters like that. I mean, as you know, I've been rumored to play so many different characters over the years," Jordan added the following month. "I mean, at this point, it's flattering, I'm humbled by it. And whoever ends up stepping into that role, it's definitely one to look for."

Created by Tom Taylor, Nicola Scott and Robson Rocha, Val-Zod debuted in 2014's Earth 2 #19. His parents were killed prior to Krypton's destruction, and upon arriving on Earth, he became a shut-in and a pacifist. However, he eventually emerged from his self-imposed hiding, allowing Earth's yellow sun to bring about his superpowers.
