Fans were shocked over Labor Day weekend to learn that the acclaimed Adult Swim animated series The Venture Bros. was canceled by Cartoon Network after seven seasons. The cancellation announcement came nearly two years after the Season 7 finale first aired, in October 2018.

Following the decision to continue the series on Adult Swim for an eighth season, the network confirmed there are tentative plans to continue the show elsewhere. One such potential platform for a continuation would be from Cartoon Network's parent company and its new premium streaming service HBO Max.

Reports indicate that HBO Max has expressed tentative interest in picking up the animated series for new episodes, though discussions for a possible pick-up are still at the very early stages, with serious talks regarding a renewal still far off.

Originally running from 2003 to 2018, with lengthy development time between seasons, The Venture Bros. was a spoof of action-adventure animated series popularized by Hanna-Barbera in the 1960s, most notably Jonny Quest. The series followed scientist Doctor Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, a former boy adventurer who was accompanied by his teenage sons and bodyguard on new escapades while facing their nemesis Monarch.
