Harley Quinn co-creator Justin Halpern teased a very different storyline for the Joker in Season 3.

"We are gonna do something with the Joker that has never been done in any Joker story," said Halpern in an interview with the Masters of None podcast. "There's a standalone Joker episode. Remember how in Season 2 of Harley we had a standalone Batman episode? There's a standalone Joker episode in Season 3 of Harley."

While Halpern didn't divulge any further information regarding this standalone episode, he did reveal that The Joker isn't the only villain that will be featured in Season 3, with Mad Hatter set to make an appearance in one of the episodes.

Halpern, who serves as head writer and executive producer on the adult animated series, teased a release window for the third season, saying that Harley Quinn would be returning to HBO Max either "the very end of this year or the beginning of [2022]." Halpern's co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker also revealed that the recording for Season 3 began in February.

Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and J.B. Smoove. Seasons 1 and 2 of the series are available to stream on HBO Max.
