HBO Max's upcoming Green Lantern TV series has reportedly found its Sinestro in Tobias Menzies.

According to The Illuminerdi, Menzies has been cast as Thaal Sinestro on the series. The show will reportedly explore his time as a Green Lantern before he breaks bad and forms the Yellow Lantern Corps. Sinestro was officially revealed as part of the series back in January 2020, but no formal casting announcement has been made. The production is believed to be underway, however, so Menzies' involvement could be confirmed soon.

If Menzies has indeed joined the cast, he will act alongside Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott. Both actors have confirmed their involvement on the show, but they won't be alone, as the series will highlight numerous members of the Green Lantern Corps. Newer Lanterns Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz will also feature on the decades-spanning series, and their character descriptions prove they will be comics-accurate. The show will also feature brand-new characters, though, with half-alien Bree Jarta the first announced.

Menzies has a long resume that includes Star Wars RebelsRomeDoctor Who and Black Mirror. He's perhaps best known for his roles as Edmure Tully on Game of Thrones, Prince Philip on The Crown and Frank and Jack Randall on Outlander. Across his career, he's played both heroes and villains, so Sinestro should be a perfect fit.

Created by John Broome and Gil Kane, Sinestro debuted in 1961's Green Lantern #7 as the archenemy of Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Over the years, however, more of his backstory has been revealed, including his time as one of the greatest Green Lanterns. He's even become an antihero in modern stories, so there's no telling where the character could go in the new series. Eventually, Sinestro becomes the founding member of the Yellow Lanterns, who use fear-based powers to battle the Green Lanterns and generally wreak havoc in the DC Universe. Sinestro's only live-action appearance to date was in 2011's Green Lantern, which saw Mark Strong play the heroic version of the character who trains Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan.

The synopsis for HBO Max's Green Lantern can be found below:

Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They'll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.

Executive produced by Geoff Johns and written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, HBO Max's Green Lantern stars Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott and Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
