HBO Max has been conservative in the release of plot details, but provided audiences with a first look at the new Gossipt Girl gang in November, with a shot of the cast on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art-- a callback to the original series that ran from 2007 to 2012.

The reboot and the original are based on the Gossip Girl novel series written by Cecily von Ziegesar. The novels centered on Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen, played by Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, respectively, in the original CW series. The 2007 series' creators -- Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran -- will be returning for the reboot, with Safran serving as the new series' showrunner. Several directors for Gossip Girl have also been announced.
