Fans of the 1990s sitcom Friends may have to wait a little longer for that reported HBO Max reunion special thanks to a budget dispute.

With the cast of Friends and Warner Bros. TV coming to very different figures -- as high as eight figures -- the project has stalled, with sources close to the situation claiming the special isn’t going to happen.

"There is interest all around and yet we can’t get the interests all alighted to push the button on it," HBO Max Chief Creative Officer Kevin Reilly said during the Television Critics Association press tour. "Today it’s just maybe."

Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green teased interest in the project during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, suggesting something was in the works. She reiterated that, although the new project would not be a reboot, it would still see the cast reunited. Her first post to Instagram, which showed her alongside the rest of the cast, gained a lot of attention from eager fans.

In September, during a Friends 25th Anniversary panel hosted at the Tribeca TV Festival, co-creator/executive producer Marta Kauffman said, "We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot," with her collaborator David Crane adding, "We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it."

The purported special was intended to help launch Friends reruns on HBO Max, which paid $425 million for the rights to stream the series.
