The original The Brothers Garcia show aired on Nickelodeon and in 40-plus countries around the world for 45 episodes from 2000-2004. The series was narrated by John Leguizamo and starred Alvin Alvarez, Vaneza Leza Pitynski, Bobby González, Jeffrey Licon, Carlos Lacamara and Ada Maris.

The Garcias is currently in production in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, in and around the town of Puerto Aventuras. It was previously announced that the series will also shoot in San Antonio, Texas and Mexico, as well as inside Mexico's popular eco-theme parks Xcaret, Xplor and Xel-Ha and will juxtapose an American Latino family in Mexico. Like the original series, The Garcias will center on a modern-day American family that happens to be Latino and will include both "aspirational and universal" themes.

The Garcias casting news was announced the same day that another HBO Max reboot, Gossip Girl, debuted on the platform. HBO Max is also currently working on revivals of Pretty Little Liars and cult animated series Clone High.
