Batman: The Animated Series ran for two seasons from 1992-1995, airing over 80 episodes. In its later run, the show went under the titles of The Adventures is Batman & Robin and The New Batman Adventures, with the show officially ending in 1999. Created by Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm, it was the first show in DC’s modern animated universe (DCAU), bringing together iconic voice casts like Kevin Conroy’s Bruce Wayne/Batman and Mark Hamill’s Joker. The "Dark Deco" aesthetic mixed with three-dimension characters resulted in B:TAS becoming one of the most beloved interpretations of the Batman character to date.

Created by Timm, Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, Batman Beyond premiered in 1999 and ran for three seasons, ending in 2001. A sequel to Batman: The Animated Series, this show focused on Terry McGinnis, a teenager who inherits the mantle of Batman from an aging Bruce Wayne to help protect a futuristic Gotham. While not held in quite the same regard by fans as its predecessor, its popularity eventually led to McGinnis' introduction into the DC Universe proper.
