HBO Max ordered a new Adventure Time series centered on Fionna and Cake.

The 10-episode series will see Fionna and Cake -- gender-swapped versions of Finn and Jake -- teaming with Simon Petrikov to "embark on a multiverse-hopping adventure and journey of self-discovery. All the while, a powerful new antagonist determined to track them down and erase them from existence lurks in the shadows." The series is produced by Cartoon Network Studios, with Adam Muto serving as executive producer and showrunner.

"Adventure Time truly broke the mold and earned legions of passionate fans in the process," HBO Max Senior Vice President of Comedy and Original Animation Billy Wee said. "We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Cartoon Network Studios to continue innovating and expanding the Adventure Time universe with this world class team."

"Adventure Time broke boundaries and was a shining example of how impactful animated storytelling can be," Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios Sam Register added. "We are excited to partner with HBO Max to carry that tradition on to new heights, lands and magical worlds."

In 2018, Adventure Time ended after 10 seasons on Cartoon Network. The show was revived, however, in a series of HBO Max specials entitled Adventure Time: Distant Lands, the last of which premiered in May 2021.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake has yet to receive a premiere date.
