"Is there anybody on screen more charismatic and appealing than Magic Mike?" Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich said. "We’re thrilled to be back in business with Channing, Steven and their creative team to bring back Magic Mike’s wonderful combination of dance, drama, romance and humor."

"There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike with Steven, Greg, Reid, and the amazing people at HBO Max," Tatum added. "The stripperverse will never be the same."

The first Magic Mike film released in 2012 and starred Tatum as seasoned male stripper Mike Lane, who mentors the 19-year-old Adam (Alex Pettyfer) in the world of exotic male dancing. The film is loosely based on Tatum's own experience as a stripper in his late teens, and it grossed $167.74 million worldwide. Three years later saw the release of Magic Mike XXL, a follow-up that wasn't quite as well-received critically or financially.

"People have to go to the first one to really even merit making a second one," Tatum said of the first sequel in a 2015 round table interview with Collider. "We couldn’t have had any idea that the first one was going to do what it did. That’s why we made it for so little money. We were just making a little independent movie. And then, we won the lottery with it, somehow. After that, the only thing we knew that was left on the table, creatively, was the convention and a few other stories that I don’t even know if they actually made it in. And we knew Matt [Bomer] was going to sing. That was about it. The rest of it, we had to start filling in. Greg really took the lead on that."

Magic Mike's Last Dance has yet to receive a release date.
