Dumbo star Nico Parker is boarding HBO's The Last of Us adaptation.

Parker will play Joel's (Pedro Pascal) daughter Sarah, who -- in the first video game -- is shot by a soldier and dies in her father's arms at the age of 12.

The Last of Us series was announced in March 2020 and is based on the 2013 Naughty Dog video game of the same name. The IP was once destined for the big screen before being canceled by Sony. However, according to writer Craig Mazin, this might have been for the best because "the joy of a story like The Last of Us is in its length. It's in a journey and it is in a slow creation of a relationship. We understand inherently that relationships that are earned over time are more precious and more deserving defense... So it had to be in this format."

Based on the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation® platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, HBO's The Last of Us stars Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Pedro Pascal as Joel, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene and Nico Parker as Sarah. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
