The Last of Us' Gabriel Luna confirmed that filming on the HBO video game adaptation has officially started.

"Already love these folk," Luna wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of him in a car with production crew members and co-stars Pedro Pascal and Nico Parker. He also signed it with the hashtag #MillerTime, a reference to Joel (Pascal) and Tommy's (Luna) last name as revealed in 2020's The Last of Us Part II. Among the post's reactions was a raising hands emoji from actor Merle Dandridge, who will reprise her role from the gaming franchise as Fireflies leader Marlene.

Luna, formally best known for his performance as Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., was cast as Joel's brother in April. Parker was just recently confirmed as Joel's daughter Sarah, a character who infamously died in the game's opening level the night of the Cordyceps virus outbreak. Sarah's loss would continue to haunt Joel 20 years later, during which he and Tommy split up over decisions Joel made to ensure their survival, with Tommy choosing to join Marlene and the Fireflies.

HBO's The Last of Us will adapt the first game's storyline based on a screenplay written by Naughty Dog game developer Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. Initially, the game was meant to receive a movie adaptation, but according to Druckmann, this fell through due to issues over the scale of the script's setpieces. While its episode count has yet to be revealed, The Last of Us has acquired directors in Jasmila Žbanić, Ali Abbasi and Kantemir Balagov, the last of whom will oversee the show's pilot.

Written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, HBO's The Last of Us stars Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Pedro Pascal as Joel, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene and Nico Parker as Sarah. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
