The Hellraiser TV show planned for HBO has secured the participation of the franchise's creator, Clive Barker.

Barker will serve as an executive producer, according to Deadline. David Gordon Green will direct the early episodes of Hellraiser while Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty will be writing the series. Verheiden will also serve as the showrunner.

Regarding his participation, Barker said that he was "delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it."

Executive producer Dan Farrah noted that "Hellraiser started with Clive’s imagination and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board."

While details about the series are currently under wraps, it's slated to be a continuation of the film franchise as opposed to a complete reboot of the property. The film series is based on author Clive Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart, involving a sinister artifact unleashing dark forces known as Cenobites on Earth.

Since the original 1987 film adaptation, there has been a wave of sequels and merchandising to keep the Hellraiser franchise alive. Recently, Spyglass Media announced it was developing its own unrelated cinematic reboot, signing on David Bruckner to helm the planned film from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.
