George R.R. Martin will help to bring another beloved fantasy story to HBO in the form of Roadmarks.

Published in 1979, Roadmarks is a sci-fi/fantasy story about a road that extends throughout time, exiting at various points in the past and future. Martin, who was close friends with author Roger Zelazny, will executive produce the series. Fear the Walking Dead co-executive producer Kalinda Vazquez will write and showrun the series in addition to executive producing with Martin. They'll also be joined by Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon producer Vince Gerardis.

"My career in television started in 1985 when I adapted Roger Zelazny’s Last Defender of Camelot for The Twilight Zone. Roger was a friend, a mentor, and one of the greatest science fiction writers who ever lived," Martin said in a statement about the project. "It was an honor to be able to bring his work to television. That is why I am so thrilled to be a part of adapting Roger’s novel Roadmarks for HBO. We have a great book, a great screenwriter in Kalinda Vasquez, and the makings of a wonderful, original show. I look forward to a long and thrilling journey."

The time-traveling road of the story was created by the mysterious Dragons of Bel’kwinith, but nothing is known about the creatures or their intentions. Only certain people have the ability to exit the road, one of which is Red Dorakeen, the story's protagonist. In the tale, he's pursued by multiple assassins, who each receive their own small stories.

Vazquez is currently working on an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's graphic novel Barrier. She's also written for and produced Marvel's RunawaysStar Trek: DiscoveryOnce Upon a Time and Nikita.
