As anyone in Hollywood will tell you, show business is a series of ups and downs. Usually they’re a little bit more spread out, but Danny McBride is dealing with the end of one show and the beginning of another, both announced within a day or so of each other.
In April McBride talked with Spinoff about the return of Eastbound & Bound to HBO, saying that he and co-creator Jody Hill were actually surprised they received a fourth season. He mentioned at the time this upcoming season might be the last, which was confirmed today on sites like TVLine. The announcement from the cable channel explains the upcoming eight-episode season ,which debuts on Sept. 29, actually takes place several years after the Season 3 finale, with McBride’s Kenny Powers “living the American Dream with his family in North Carolina.”
However, McBride has plenty of other projects to look forward to: He has This is the End opening on June 12, but The Hollywood Reporter also just announced McBride’s involvement in a new animated series for FXX. Called Chozen, the hip-hop comedy was created by Grant Dekernion, who will write, executive produce and perform the raps in the show.
The title character, whose non-rapping voice will be that of Saturday Night Live‘s Bobby Moynihan, is a gay white rapper who recently got out of jail. McBride, Hill and David Gordon Green, the brains behind Eastbound & Down, have signed on to produce along with Archer‘s Adam Reed and Matt Thompson. Moynihan and Dekernion will be joined in the voice cast by Hannibal Buress, Nick Swardson, Metho Man, Michael Pena and Kathryn Hahn.
Chozen will join The League, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Legit and new daily talkshow Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell at the September-launching FXX.
