"Captain America: Civil War" saw more than a few major developments happen in the life of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Steve Rogers. Not only did he bury one of the great loves of his life, Peggy Carter, but he also finally kissed former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 13, Sharon Carter. During an appearance at Fan Expo Dallas, Hayley Atwell -- who starred as Peggy in the two previous "Captain America" films as well as the two-season run of the "Agent Carter" TV series-- spoke about the romantic development between her character's ex and her grandniece.
"Well, first of all she'd be turning over in her grave," Atwell said with a grin, as reported by IGN. "She'd be like 'no.' And she'd inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She'd break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She'd ground her. Then she'd kick Steve's ass as well... I just feel that, you know -- I wouldn't want to date my great aunt's guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That's even more disrespectful, right? It's like, 'don't touch that."' You can't tap that!"
Atwell also spoke out of concern for her fictional counterpart's grandniece, even pointing to the recent controversy in the Captain America comics. "She'd want the best for her and she'd want her dating a good guy. And now with this whole 'Hail Hydra" business, I don't know if Steve's good enough for her," said Atwell. "So on all levels, it's just a big fat no."
On the subject of a third season of "Agent Carter," Atwell continued to stump for the series' return. "I was speaking to the writers last night and we all love the show so much that we'd be happy to pursue it on a different network," said Atwell. "There's still so much to tell, not the least of which is how Agent Carter starts S.H.I.E.L.D."
