Echo, who will be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ show Hawkeye, may already be getting her own spinoff series.

According to Variety, a series starring Echo, the deaf Native American hero played by Alaqua Cox in the upcoming Marvel Studios/Disney+ Hawkeye series, is currently in early development with Etan and Emily Cohen attached to write and produce. Marvel has not yet commented on the report.

It was reported in Dec. 2020 that the character Maya Lopez/Echo would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the same month that Hawkeye began production in New York City with Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld and Jolt the dog-actor (aka. Lucky the Pizza Dog).  The series will follow Clint Barton (Renner) as he trains Kate Bishop (Steinfeld) to be the next Hawkeye.

Set videos and photos that surfaced in Dec. 2020 provided the first look at Cox's portrayal of Echo, who can be seen communicating through sign language with actor Zahn McClarnon, who will portray Maya Lopez's father William Lopez.

Maya Lopez/Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 in 1999, created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, and is one of the few Native American and deaf characters in comics overall. Like the villain Taskmaster, she has photographic reflexes, giving her the ability to copy other people's movements. Echo was first introduced to comics as a love interest for Daredevil and it's speculated that her involvement in Hawkeye could be a way for Matthew Murdock/Daredevil to officially enter the MCU.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Jolt as Pizza Dog/Lucky, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez. The Disney+ series has yet to receive a premiere date.
