A tweak to Hawkeye's awards category suggests that the Marvel Cinematic Universe series may be back for a second season.

Based on Disney's "For Your Consideration" website, Hawkeye is no longer filed under the Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series but rather the Outstanding Comedy Series category. While it's currently unknown why Disney changed the show's nomination, it's worth noting that in order for a series to be up for the Limited Series Emmy Award, it must "tell a complete, non-recurring story, and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons." The tweak has led some fans to believe that a second season of Hawkeye is now in development. Marvel Studios and Disney have yet to officially announce anything regarding the series' future.

This isn't the first time Disney has tweaked the suggested awards category for one of its MCU series. Loki was also originally nominated for Outstanding Limited Series but was switched when the show's second season was officially confirmed.

Despite the Emmy category change, the future of the Clint barton-led series remains a series. Executive producer and director Rhys Thomas addressed the possibility of Season 2, stating that he wasn't aware of any official installments. "I cannot speak to future plans in the tradition of secrecy," Thomas said. "Again, the show coming out, you never know how it's going to be received and it has been amazing to see how warmly people have taken it and enjoyed it. And it's been great to see [Hailee Steinfeld's] character embraced and sort of land so firmly in the MCU. I sincerely look forward to where that character goes next. And yes, I loved walking on the streets of the MCU and would gladly enjoy doing it again."

Hawkeye follows the titular Avenger as he embarks on a journey through New York City to save his protégé Kate Bishop after she becomes embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy tied to the criminal underworld. While fans appreciated the exploration of Hawkeye's regret falling his stint as a violent vigilante in Avengers: Endgame, the show turned heads when it re-introduced Vincent D'Onofrio as The Kingpin. The beloved actor reprised the role from Netflix's Daredevil series, officially making his iteration of the villain canon in the MCU.

Hawkeye is now streaming on Disney+.
