Searching for Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye in the marketing for Avengers: Infinity War has turned into sort of a Where's Waldo? for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Except Waldo, with his red-and-white striped shirt, is much easier to find. Heck, the archer was virtually pushed out of the frame in the new "Legacy" promo celebrating the 10th anniversary of Marvel Studios.

However, he does show up on the cover for the upcoming Road to Avengers: Infinity War art book shared this morning by Ryan Meinerding, Marvel Studios' head of visual development.

This is the front cover to the upcoming art book The Road to Infinity War. This painting was a collaboration with four of the main concept artists in my department, @andyparkart @rodneyimages @anthony_francisco_art and @jwsze I did the overall composition and then we divided the characters between us. Any guesses who I did? I’m hoping to have this as a limited edition print at my booth in SDCC this year and have special signings each day where you can meet the other Vis Dev guys involved with the painting. I’ll have more information closer to the time. #avengers #captainamerica #spiderman #ironman #hulk #thor #blackwidow #warmachine #rocketraccoon #wintersoldier #falcon #hawkeye #loki #roadtoinfinitywar #artbook #marvelstudios #marvel #infinitywar #digitalpainting

You can spot Hawkeye in the upper left of the image, pulling back his bow in front of Loki. Of course, as the title of the book suggests, it's to commemorate the decade-long journey from 2008's Iron Man to this month's Infinity War, and not the ensemble film itself. That's why most of the characters aren't depicted in the current costumes.

Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have repeatedly assured fans that Hawkeye's absence from trailers, TV spots and posters is explained by his role in the movie, which will likely remain a secret for another couple of weeks. “We did not forget the twice-nominated Jeremy Renner," Joe Russo recently said. "We cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play.”

In the marketing blitz for Infinity War, the only other places we've seen Renner as Hawkeye is in that aforementioned "Legacy" promo, which uses footage from 2012's The Avengers, and on a Vanity Fair cover celebrating 10 years of the MCU.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The film hits theaters April 27.
