Disney+'s Hawkeye is set to introduce a slew of new characters, including Fra Fee as Kazi, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman and Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo. As exciting as these new additions are on their own, Echo's introduction presents a chance to see a key Marvel Netflix villain return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin.

Introduced as a Spider-Man villain in the comics, Wilson Fisk was one of Matt Murdock's main foes in the Netflix series Daredevil. While the series was generally well-received, it was canceled along with the rest of the Marvel Netflix shows. Following its cancellation, Marvel Studios was required to wait two years before it could reintroduce the characters in new projects. Since Daredevil's two year period officially ended, Marvel now has the ability to bring Kingpin back into the MCU.

Kingpin Daredevil Marvel Netflix

Many fans, including the actor behind the role, Vincent D'Onofrio, have speculated about Kingpin's possible return in other Marvel projects. D'Onofrio himself was pushing for another season of Daredevil, but the show isn't likely to return any time soon for various reasons. The actor also hinted at his desire for Fisk to appear in the upcoming third Spider-Man film. While it would be incredible to see Kingpin face off against Spider-Man, there may be another way to seamlessly reintegrate the character into the MCU.

Now that Hawkeye has cast Cox as Maya Lopez, along with Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez, the show has the perfect opportunity to reintroduce Kingpin. In the comics, Wilson Fisk has an important role in Maya and Willie's lives. Initially, Willie works for Fisk as a mob enforcer, but one day, Fisk has him killed.

With his dying breath, Willie tells Fisk to take care of his daughter, and the crime lord honors his wish, raising Maya as his own. Eventually, Fisk uses Maya in a plot to take down Daredevil by claiming the vigilante killed her father. When Maya discovers the truth about her father's death, she turns on Fisk and becomes a superhero.

Echo Maya Lopez Marvel Comics

Given the relationship between Kingpin, Maya and Willie, telling a version of Echo's origin story in Hawkeye would be a great way to reintroduce the character of Wilson Fisk. Even though the MCU isn't completely faithful to the source material, it would be strange to see Fisk omitted from Echo's backstory altogether.

Moreover, Kingpin is simply an excellent villain that shouldn't go to waste. Many fans would love to see the crime lord rejoin the MCU, especially if D'Onofrio reprises the role. Seeing as Marvel is now free to utilize the character again, it would be great to see Fisk return to wreak havoc in the MCU.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez. The Disney+ series has yet to receive a premiere date.
