Hailee Steinfeld is happy to be portraying Kate Bishop in the Disney+ Hawkeye series, calling it "an honor" to play the character.

"It’s amazing, my god, to finally be able to confirm! It’s such an honor to be playing this role. I’m so, so excited about it," Steinfeld told Fandom. She also jokingly discussed keeping the role a secret, saying, "Yeah, that sucks!"

Steinfeld was first rumored to be playing Bishop in late 2019. The rumors persisted until on-set photos finally confirmed she had taken on the role. Jeremy Renner also posted a behind-the-scenes picture of his own, welcoming Steinfeld to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In Marvel Comics canon, Kate Bishop is swept into the superhero life after an encounter with the Young Avengers. She then takes up the mantle of Hawkeye after Clint Barton's death, and even works with Barton after his resurrection. Kate currently works as a private eye in California.

Hawkeye takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and finds Clint Barton training Kate Bishop as the new Hawkeye. Set photos and details have confirmed that the series takes major inspiration from Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye series, including the debut of Lucky the Pizza Dog.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Jolt as Pizza Dog/Lucky, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez. The Disney+ series has yet to receive a premiere date.
