Marvel Studios released a new promo for Hawkeye on Disney+ that offers up a new look at Kate Bishop's mom, one of the series' potential villains.

The promo shows Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop as they talk to Kate's mom, Eleanor. Played by Vera Farmiga, Eleonor inquires about what brought the two heroes together, asking, "So Kate is helping you with an Avengers level threat?" The archers playfully reply and banter about their dynamic before the clip cuts to a montage of previously seen footage. However, given Hawkeye's comic-accurate aspirations, a deeper look at this clip in context with other footage may be foreshadowing a villainous turn from Eleanor.

In the new footage, Eleanor looks bemused by the "Avengers level threat" that Kate and Clint claim they're facing while wearing nice, but fairly plain clothes. However, Farmiga's appearance here differs substantially from what has previously been shown. In the first trailer for Hawkeye, a glimpse of Eleonor painted her in a more sinister light with a red dress, her hair straightened and a glass of wine in hand.

In the source material, Eleonor Bishop is Kate's long-lost mother. It was thought that she died when Kate was a child, only for it to later be revealed in Kelly Thompson and Leonardo Romero's Hawkeye run that she had survived and begun financing criminal activities. Eleonor's activities ended up bringing her into the crosshairs of Kate, as the younger Hawkeye was pursuing her longtime foe, Madame Masque, who was under Eleanor's employ. With rumors swirling that Madame Masque will be featured in Hawkeye, Farmiga's heel turn may have been hidden in plain sight.

Should they be revealed as villains, Eleonor and Masque would be able to stand beside the eclectic cast of criminals set to appear in Hawkeye. Another recent promo for the series offered up the first look at actor Fra Fee as the Clown, one of the most prominent faces featured in Matt Fraction, David Aja and Annie Wu's Hawkeye run. Given the importance of that series in Clint and Kate's comic book histories and the multiple references to that run in the show's promotional material, it's expected that the Clown will have a sizeable impact on the Disney+ Hawkeye as well.

In Hawkeye, Clint Barton's past comes back to haunt him when a mysterious new Ronin appears in the streets of New York City. Revealed to be the upstart archer Kate Bishop, Clint and Kate have to team up to take down a new threat in the build-up to Christmas. The show debuts on Disney+ with a two-episode season premiere on Nov. 24.
