WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the first two episodes of Hawkeye, now streaming on Disney+.

Marvel Studios is certainly known for laying down Easter eggs and teases that may or may not turn into something more. Mephisto ended up being a red herring for Agatha Harkness, but He Who Remains did turn out to be the gateway for Kang the Conqueror. With each show and film, the studio has been consistently leaving promises of what could be in the future. Hawkeye is no exception.

Just like introducing Kate Bishop adds fuel to the Young Avengers fire, Hawkeye has also continued to tease the formation of the West Coast Avengers. In Episode 1, Kate draws the attention of the Tracksuit Mafia who, by Episode 2, has tracked her to her home and set it on fire. Taking Clint's advice, she finds a safe house: her aunt's empty apartment. Not only is there a West Coast Avengers clue inside her aunt's home but it's also on the door buzzer.

First introduced in Avengers West Coast #100, Moira Brandon was a famous actress who eventually retired to her Palos Verdes estate in California. This estate was then bought by the West Coast Avengers, who turned it into the new Avengers Compound. When Hawkeye and his wife, Mockingbird, showed up to check it out, they were attacked by Crossfire. Moira ended up saving them by using Crossfire's weapon against him, but she collapsed soon after. Before she died, Hawkeye made her an honorary West Coast Avenger.

Moira Brandon's name on Kate's aunt's apartment directory

In Hawkeye Episode 2, Kate tells Clint that her aunt's abandoned apartment would make for the perfect safe house while the two deal with the fallout caused by her putting on the Ronin suit. As Kate scrolls through the door buzzer names, Moira Brandon's name is seen. It seems that in this universe, Moira is not only still alive but is also currently living in New York City and not California.

Although Kate never says her aunt’s name, it could be argued Moira is, in fact, Kate's aunt and not just a famous neighbor. After all, Moira's name can be spotted again inside the apartment, this time on a poster for Creature of the Dark Galaxy. Furthermore, when Kate emerges wearing some of her aunt's clothes, the fur-lined, silk robe seems to scream old Hollywood glam. It may be circumstantial, but the placement and screen time suggest they could mean something more.

It is worth noting that in the comics, Clint Barton served as chairman for the original West Coast Avengers, with Kate Bishop reforming the group later. Plus, some storylines from those comics have already been adapted into the MCU, like WandaVision's version of the White Vision and its nods at Wonder Man. Wanda is also a member of the team. Others members have been introduced recently, including U.S. Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Marc Spector a.k.a. Moon Knight, whose show is coming to Disney+ in 2022.

Whether or not Moira Brandon turns out to be Kate's aunt, an unseen tenant in the building or something more, it is clear that by using her name, Marvel Studios is giving fans an intentional nod towards a possible future with the West Coast Avengers.
