There is much more than meets the eye with the current "Combiner Wars" storyline running through Transformers comics, the Machinima digital series and Activision video games. While it appears to be an epic, cross media storyline, it actually serves as the first part to a massive "Prime Wars" trilogy that Hasbro has in the works and that will span multiple media over the course of a few years.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, "Prime Wars" provides a framework of storytelling that spans across various media and products over the course of the next three to four years.

"The Combiner Wars" wraps in summer 2016, bringing to a close the trilogy's first chapter. The second chapter, "Titans Return," begins in fall 2016 and features some of the biggest robots in existence and the fan-favorite character Sentinel Prime. Finally, the trilogy concludes in late 2017 or early 2018 with a third chapter.

"The fan reaction was really good," David Erwin, the head of Hasbro's Transformers story team, told THR. "And that's when we decided we wanted to make this a trilogy and really make this immersive. And when we say immersive, that means to create that experience across all different platforms, to take it across everything that we do."

The event will play out across the entire "Transformers Generations" toyline, in IDW Publishing's line of comics and in digital games.
