We’ve known for nearly seven months that Marvel’s World War II-era superheroes The Invaders will have a significant Captain America: The First Avenger. Until today, however, there’s been no indication who might join Chris Evans (Captain America) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) on the fabled team.
The original Union Jack, Lord Falsworth debuted in July 1976’s Invaders #7 as a British government operative who came out of retirement in World War II and joined The Invaders after the Human Torch saved his daughter Jacqueline from the vampire Baron Blood. (She was revived by a blood transfusion from the android Torch, which endowed her with super-speed.) Falsworth’s children Jacqueline and Brian later became members of the team as the team as Spitfire and the second Union Jack, respectively.
The 32-year-old Feild, who was born in the United States but moved to England as an infant, is relatively unknown to American audiences. He’s appeared in the British television adaptations of The Ruby in the Smoke (alongside Doctor Who‘s Billie Piper ) and Northanger Abbey.
Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough and Tommy Lee Jones. The film opens on July 22, 2011.
