Demon Slayer is notably one of the most popular animes within recent years. The show displays a number of relatable characters, a beautiful animation style, and a captivating plot line to match. It's easy to see why it's become so popular so quickly.

Fans all around the world have had to deal with a number of gut-wrenching realities since becoming dedicated viewers and followers of Demon Slayer. There are some elements fans want more of, and there are some they wish there was less of. Despite Demon Slayer's harsh realities, it's still worth being a devoted fan of the characters the absolute chaos they overcome throughout the anime.

10 Trying To Never Pick A Favorite Character

When viewers are watching a show and becoming consumed by it, it's easy to find characters who are one's favorites due to their relatability and personality traits. This reigns true in Demon Slayer. Unfortunately, all the demon slayers have a huge chance of dying thanks to the fact the demons in the show are super powerful. Viewers have seen this happen a couple of times, and it's guaranteed to happen more and more as the show progresses. Viewers will have to choose between attaching themselves to characters they may lose, or distancing themselves from the characters to avoid heartbreak.

9 The Amount Of Death In The Show

The amount of death in the show is almost incomparable to any other popular anime at the moment. Demon Slayer has a gut-wrenching story that rips viewers apart within the very first episode: viewers watch as Tanjiro Kamado walks into his family's home, only to find his entire family slaughtered by demons and his sister, Nezuko, forever cursed as a demon herself. Demon Slayer fans get used to characters dying, so viewers aren't overly surprised when another one winds up dead. However, this doesn't make it hurt any less.

8 Having A Love Hate Relationship With Tanjiro Kamado

Demon Slayer's Tanjiro Kamado

Tanjiro Kamado is an outstanding character overall, but he has some flaws throughout the series. Because of the trauma he suffered, he's an incredibly stubborn, yet passionate individual who is dedicated to bringing down the demon race and curing his sister. However, his stubbornness and passion to help ultimately lead to Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku's death in the Mugen Train arc. Viewers continue to see the little decisions Tanjiro makes in battle lead to major changes and deaths, such as Hashira Tenjen Uzui getting critically injured and being forced to retire.

7 Loving Some Of The Demons

In most cases within Demon Slayer, the demons are the antagonists, and they wreak havoc on humanity. Despite this unfortunate and gruesome detail, some of them are extremely drawn well and have a perfect voice actor to match. For example, with less than a minute of on-screen time, Doma in the Entertainment District Arc leaves fans trembling with anticipation and admiration. Doma has a rather attractive appearance and the animation studio's choice of voice actor, Mamoru Miyano is perfect. In the next season, viewers will be able to see Doma in full detail as main demon for that arc.

6 Realizing Some Things Are Too Good To Be True

The plot line of Demon Slayer can trick its viewers into thinking that the loose threads have been wrapped up, and the good guys have won. However, in most cases, it is just the beginning. This shattering of expectation happens several times throughout the show.

A powerful example of this reality comes when Tanjiro and Tenjen are in battle with Daki and realize that no matter how many times they decapitate her, she always comes back. Come to find out, she has to be killed at the exact same time as her brother, Gyutaro.

5 Feeling Sorry For Some Of The Demons

A majority of the demons commit horrific acts of violence against humanity, killing them or turning them into demons themselves. Despite their truly sinister ways, a majority of them have traumatic backstories that leave viewers feeling sorry for them. For example, Gyutaro and Daki's backstories are miserable: filled with death, disease, and being outcasts born into poverty.

Gyutaro was hated by his mother, which was carried on throughout the village. Viewers saw him being severely mistreated, and as for Daki, she was a beautiful human who suffered being burned to death after standing up for her brother.

4 The Desire For More Backstory With The Hashiras

Each and every hashira is so vastly different whether it be due to their personality types, battle style, or character design. Viewers desperately want to see more backstory present when including new hashiras in each arc. Fans understand that the manga has more time to introduce the backstories, whereas the show is somewhat more restricted with time. But it would be amazing to see little snippets of backstories from each of the hashiras and discover what made them become a hashira in the first place.

3 Mugen Train Being Modified Into Another Season

The Mugen Train arc being modified into another season did in fact add some extra screen time for Kyojuro Rengoku from a different perspective, however, the rest of it was essentially the same as the movie. It seemed a little redundant and pointless to break it up and make it its own season when there were very minor changes made to it. The energy put into adding different scenes and breaking it up into a whole other season could've been spent somewhere else within the studio's plan for Demon Slayer.

2 Each Episode Seemed Too Short

With any great show, episodes always feel a little too short. But in the case of Demon Slayer, many fans were used to having the episodes readily available to binge-watch and then enjoy the Mugen Train arc movie the next year. As for its second season, viewers had to wait a week in between episodes, which already felt short in the first place.

Every time the ending scene appeared on-screen, it left viewers with a devastating cliffhanger, leaving several questions present in their minds. This trend Demon Slayer employed made for a great show, but many fans weren't used to this feeling.

1 Wanting More Screen Time For Nezuko

Nezuko from the Demon Slayer anime.

In the Entertainment District Arc, it seemed like Nezuko was hidden away for most of the season. It was most likely due to the fact that Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu were on an undercover mission to find the upper rank demon. However, she typically made appearances by peeping her head out of the box from time to time. Knowing Nezuko had incredibly powerful fighting skill which were helpful to Tanjiro and the team, this writing decision left fans puzzled. Thankfully, she went full demon rage and helped them defeat Gyutaro and Daki.
