Harry Potter actor Tom Felton claims that the book series' author, J.K. Rowling, had limited involvement in the production of the films.

In an interview with Variety, Felton revealed that, although she wrote the stories, Rowling "wasn’t part of the filmmaking process as much as some people might think." He added, "I think I only recall seeing her once or twice on set." When asked how he feels about Rowling's controversial comments about transgender issues, Felton said, "I’m pro-choice, pro-discussion, pro-human rights across the board, and pro-love. And anything that is not those things, I don’t really have much time for."

Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the films, is just one of many Harry Potter actors who have shared their thoughts on Rowling's anti-trans stance. Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the films, said, "I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers. Trans women are women. Trans men are men." He added "We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment."

Harry Potter Author's Ongoing Controversy

Rowling initially came under fire after writing a series of tweets about trans issues. "If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction," she wrote at one point. "If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth."

Following the tweets, a number of celebrities spoke out against Rowling's comments. Director John Waters recently said "I have a thing about who I would cancel: J.K. Rowling. Give her some Preparation H for that transphobia. What’s the matter with her?"

Wonder Woman's Lynda Carter also had some thoughts on Rowling's statements that trans women are not "real" women. "You don't have to be trans to understand the importance of respecting trans people and affirming their identities," she said. "Life is just too short. I can't imagine how it makes any sense to use one's fame and resources to put others down."

However, some celebrities came out in support of the author. "I can’t understand the vitriol directed at her," said The King's Man actor Ralph Fiennes. "I can understand the heat of an argument, but I find this age of accusation and the need to condemn irrational."
