While J.K. Rowling is likely hard at work on the upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, some Harry Potter fans are taking their own dive into the wizarding world, and exploring one of its more mysterious aspects: Tom Riddle's transformation into Voldemort.
The production company Tryangle has released the teaser trailer for Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, a fan film inspired by a re-reading of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which alludes to a lost period between when Tom Riddle graduated from Hogwarts and when he reappeared years later as the dark wizard Voldemort. What occurred in those intervening years? How precisely did Tom Riddle transform himself into the most terrifying dark wizard the world has ever known? According the synopsis for Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, "There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise."
The teaser makes an intriguing case for the story and features some impressive special effects and slick production value given that this is a not-for-profit project and clearly a labor of love by the team at Tryangle. More importantly, according to the film's official Facebook page, Tryangle has reached a deal with Warner Bros. to release Voldemort: Origins of the Heir later this year for free on YouTube.
