The hit anime series My Hero Academia features a dazzling cast of highly diverse characters, including costumed pro heroes, sinister villains, and lovable, relatable students who are still figuring themselves out as trainee heroes. These characters might understand themselves even better if they got sorted into the four Hogwarts houses from the Harry Potter universe.

The four Hogwarts houses each symbolize different values, character traits, and worldviews, including the teamwork and courage of Gryffindor, the cunning ambition of Slytherin, the resourceful cleverness of Ravenclaw, and the work ethic and generosity of Hufflepuff. All of My Hero Academia's characters clearly belong in one House or another based on how they fight and how they see themselves and each other.

Update March 27th, 2023 by Louis Kemner: With six seasons and counting, the My Hero Academia anime has a bigger and better cast of characters than ever. This also means that longtime characters have had more chances to show a new side to themselves, making them almost feel like all-new characters by this point. It's easier than ever to determine which Hogwarts house these characters truly belong in.

15 Izuku Midoriya

Gryffindor

izuku midoriya with a big smile in my hero academia

Shonen series often rely on Gryffindor-type heroes to move the action forward and give the readers someone to cheer on. A Gryffindor favors courage and nerve, an action-oriented mindset, and an attitude of loyalty and trust among a close circle of friends. In that way, Gryffindors are just like their emblem, the lion.

Izuku fits that mold perfectly, and even before receiving One For All, he was a hero at heart, leaping right into the action to rescue his friend Katsuki Bakugo from a slimy villain. In more recent sequences, Izuku became even more recklessly bold with his Dark Deku antics, proving that even the noble Gryffindor house has its dark side.

14 Ochaco Uraraka

Hufflepuff

Izuku and Ochaco embracing the nickname Deku

Hufflepuff house represents industriousness and hard work, patience, honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of teamwork and cooperation. They're a house that can outlast all the others with their tireless work ethic, and Hufflepuffs can bring out the best in everyone around them.

All that describes Ochaco Uraraka well, since she is working patiently and smartly to enhance her quirk and fighting skills, and she can make friends with just about anyone. Ochaco is sensitive but tough, and she is ready to become a hero strictly to provide money for her family. A hard worker like her only wants what's best for others, including family.

13 Momo Yaoyorozu

Ravenclaw

momo yaoyorozu with a confident expression in my hero academia

Momo Yaoyorozu is class 1-A's smartest, most calclating student, and she makes resourceful use of her Creation Quirk, too. Ravenclaws like Momo always value wit and logic, intelligence, and forward thinking. They aren't natural leaders, but they can help a leader develop smart battle plans and provide advice.

Momo Yaoyorozu's towering IQ allows her to understand any object and recreate it with her Quirk, down to the finest detail. She can also devise intricate battle plans and carry them out, and lead a team to victory. Recently, Momo also showed some Gryffindor traits, leading her class in the battle against the massive Gigantomachia.

12 Shoto Todoroki

Slytherin

My Hero Academia's Shoto Todoroki looking determined.

Slytherins are often considered villains in the making since Slytherin favors traits such as self-centered thinking, ruthless ambition, cunning, and the attitude that the ends justify the means. Fortunately, My Hero Academia also has Slytherins who bring out this house's best side, like Shoto Todoroki.

A Slytherin like Shoto may not be evil, but they will doggedly chase after what they want, and step on anyone they have to during that quest. Early on, Shoto Todoroki was practically obsessed with getting out of Endeavor's shadow, a bitter loner who wants power and recognition above else. Now Shoto is a better team player as a compassionate, hardworking kuudere Slytherin.

11 All For One

Slytherin

All For One looking menacing with his eyes shaded in My Hero Academia.

The sinister All For One is the very image of a ruthless, self-absorbed, exploitative anime villain, making him a terrifying Slytherin in many of the same ways Lord Voldemort once was. Like Voldemort before him, All For One makes everything about himself and what he wants, and there's no line he won't cross.

All For One has been a Slytherin since the early days of Quirks, using his own All For One Quirk to transfer other people's Quirks on request and thus build up a legion of loyal followers. All For One did that not out of kindness, but to become the king of a world defined by Quirks.

10 Fumikage Tokoyami

Gryffindor

Fumikage Tokoyami is a Gryffindor at heart since he can work well in a small team and carry his weight with terrifying skill. He may have a bird's head, but he embodies few Ravenclaw traits such as book smarts or clever resourcefulness. He gets mediocre grades in school, in fact, and he has a brute-force Quirk rather than something creative like Creation.

Instead, Fumikage has shown incredible courage and resolve when facing villains such as Tomura Shigaraki and All For One in recent chapters and episodes in My Hero Academia. Like any Gryffindor, Fumikage will attack first and ask questions later, and he counts on his friends to back him up.

9 Tenya Iida

Hufflepuff

Tenya Iida looking determined in My Hero Academia

While Tenya Iida is smart and bookish like a Ravenclaw, his personality fits Hufflepuff house better. He is the class representative and works hard to inspire, motivate, and discipline his classmates to bring out the best in each of them, which is a distinct Hufflepuff trait.

Tenya Iida also diligently trained to improve his strength and Quirk long after anyone else would have quit, and he will study long and hard to keep his grades up. Only a Hufflepuff could be industrious and disciplined enough to keep that up, and Tenya Iida has results like the Recipro Turbo technique to show for it.

8 Gran Torino

Ravenclaw

Gran Torino sitting on the ground and holding his cane in My Hero Academia

The petite pro hero Gran Torino is the hero who taught All Might, but they don't share personalities. Gran Torino is brave and bold like All Might and the other heroes, but he'd rather intercept villains at high speeds and support his allies than be the star.

Most of all, Gran Torino is clever and insightful as a true Ravenclaw, making him Izuku's best mentor to date. Gran Torino masterfully taught Izuku how to unlock the potential of One For All and develop a practical fighting style, far quicker than All Might ever could have done.

7 Neito Monoma

Slytherin

Neito Monoma grinning in frustration in My Hero Academia

Neito Monoma is one of the most prominent students of U.A.'s hero class 1-B, and he made a strong — and negative — first impression when he first appeared. Neito is obsessed with taking down hero class 1-A, and he'll do anything to accomplish this goal.

An attitude like that is Slytherin-worthy because Neito shows ambition, ruthlessness, and a desire to walk over anyone and everyone to get what he wants. He was crafty and driven during the cavalry battle, and he takes great pride in class 1-B, though he acts more politely around guests like Eri, whom not even he would think to bully.

6 Mirio Togata

Hufflepuff

Like most UA students, the blond Mirio Togata has many Gryffindor traits, since that's what shonen anime and the pro hero industry both call for. However, Mirio isn't a Gryffindor purist, and he also has some fundamental traits that mark him as a Hufflepuff instead.

RELATED: 10 My Hero Academia Characters That Would Do Better With Different Quirks

Like most Hufflepuffs, the selfless Mirio puts everyone else first and even named himself Lemillion because he aims to save one million lives while asking for nothing in return. Mirio also worked incredibly hard and showed his industrious side when he trained to master his Permation Quirk.

5 Shota Aizawa

Ravenclaw

Aizawa with glowing eyes surrounded by his scarf in My Hero Academia.

Izuku's homeroom teacher is the stern tsundere Shota Aizawa, with the hero name Eraserhead. Shota Aizawa favors clever tactics, resourceful thinking, and careful planning over brute force, which clearly mark him as a Ravenclaw at heart.

Aizawa is MHA's version of Batman — a ninja-like, streetwise hero who can easily track down and capture criminals with his Erasure Quirk, fancy tools, and detective-like mind. Aizawa's sharp wits and insightful ways make him class 1-A's ideal homeroom teacher so he can help every student unlock their true potential.

4 Katsuki Bakugo

Slytherin

Bakugo looking angry after failing the Provisional License Exam in My Hero Academia.

Izuku's childhood friend Katsuki Bakugo has his Gryffindor side, but he is definitely a Slytherin above all else. Like most Slytherins, Katsuki Bakugo puts himself and his needs first and will say or do whatever he must to make his ambitions a reality.

RELATED: 10 Most Unreliable Characters in My Hero Academia

This does not make Bakugo evil or a villain, but he has come scarily close at times, such as his determination to defeat All Might in a practice battle without Izuku's help. Recent MHA episodes helped tame Bakugo's Slytherin nature, with him sincerely apologizing to Izuku and accepting his position as a support hero rather than the star.

3 Itsuka Kendo

Gryffindor

Itsuka Kendo running in MHA/My Hero Academia.

Class 1-B's representative, Itsuka Kendo, is often considered class 1-B's responsible big sister. She is a tough, kind, empathetic, and brave student hero who can keep troublemakers in line and will face villains like Mustard in battle without hesitation.

Gryffindors make good leaders for small teams, and sure enough, Itsuka was her team's leader in the joint training battle against Momo's own squad. Itsuka may lack Momo's resourceful Quirk, but she made up for it with practical street smarts and fearless, Gryffindor-style tenacity, which led to her victory.

2 Hawks

Hufflepuff

Collage of Hawks from My Hero Academia

After seeing the winged hero Hawks brutally dispatch the villain Twice, it may be tough to think of him as a member of the easygoing Hufflepuff house. At heart, though, Hawks really is a Hufflepuff because he is a friendly, selfless hero who favors peace and harmony over adventure and ambition.

Hawks will push himself to the limit for duty's sake, but unlike ambitious Slytherins or reckless Gryffindors, Hawks doesn't really identify with it. Instead, as he once explained out loud, Hawks wants to fight so he can create an eternally peaceful and safe world where heroes like him aren't even needed anymore.

1 Dr. Garaki

Ravenclaw

dr. garaki looking through a glass window menacingly in mha

Dr. Garaki is an insidious scientist and a longtime ally of All For One, meaning he is a total villain even if he doesn't rob banks or fight heroes in person. Dr. Garaki has the book smarts and resourcefulness of a wicked Ravenclaw, and that's why both AFO and Tomura rely on him for support.

Dr. Garaki studied medicine and Quirks alike so he could become MHA's own Dr. Frankenstein, combining flesh and Quirks with cutting-edge science to make lab-grown abominations like the Nomu. He also did this for Tomura Shigaraki personally, so Tomura emerged from his tank loaded with Quirks, ready for action.
