A fan-favorite, Luna made her debut in Order of the Phoenix and immediately gained a huge fanbase who loved Luna for her quirkiness, unconventional beliefs, and unique personality. Luna might've only appeared in half of the series, but she still won the hearts of all Harry Potter fans due to her inspiring quotes and her sense of humor.

10 "I Think They Think I'm A Bit Odd, You Know. Some People Call Me 'Loony' Lovegood, Actually"

The daughter of an eccentric newspaper editor and a brilliant spell-creator, Luna held beliefs and ideals that made her stand out amongst her peers. Despite her friendly and open disposition, however, she was often the target of name-calling and teasing, though she rarely reacted or replied to other students' taunts.

By the time Luna was in her fourth year at Hogwarts, most of her classmates had taken to using the nickname 'Loony' when referring to her. After befriending Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Ginny, they began defending Luna whenever someone tried to intimidate her.

As the Weasleys' neighbors and allies, the Lovegoods received an invitation to Bill and Fleur's secret wedding at the Burrow. The Lovegoods attended the wedding wearing yellow robes, which were meant to bring good luck to the newlyweds. Luna instantly recognized Harry, even though he was disguised as a Weasley cousin with the help of Polyjuice Potion.

Always fascinated by the magical creatures around her, Luna joyously told her father that she'd been bitten by one of the Weasleys' gnomes. Xenophilius Lovegood, who was just as whimsical as his daughter, immediately congratulated her because gnome saliva was said to have powerful magical properties.

After avoiding Professor Slughorn's Slug Club reunions for months, Harry finally caved and promised to attend a Christmas party with a surprised but delighted Luna as his plus one. When she met up with him in the corridor, she was wearing silver dress robes that Harry considered 'nice enough', but Luna's outfit received a few giggles from other Hogwarts students.

Right before entering the Christmas party, Luna commented that she'd only ever been to that part of Hogwarts while sleepwalking. Given her frequent sleepwalking, Luna often wore shoes to bed. Used to her eccentricities already, Harry simply didn't respond.

7 "My Mum Always Said Things We Lose Have A Way Of Coming Back To Us In The End. If Not Always In The Way We Expect It"

Luna's mother, Pandora Lovegood, was a powerful witch who loved to experiment with spells until one went wrong and ended her life prematurely. As Luna seemed to have inherited her father's eccentricity, she might've also picked up on her mother's wisdom before her mother died.

While looking for her lost things on the last day of classes, Luna met up with Harry who offered to look for her things with her. After politely turning Harry down, Luna explained that, as her mother always said, her things would find an unexpected way to return to her.

While Luna was often described as having a 'dreamy' and absent-minded quality, she could be surprisingly perceptive, especially when it came to her friends' feelings. When she interrupted Harry at Fleur and Bill's wedding, she could tell Harry had been worrying about something important. Luna mentioned that she could see Harry's deep thoughts growing smaller in his eyes.

A warm and serene person, Luna was also great at comforting others and lifting their moods. During her incarceration at Malfoy Manor, Luna constantly gave hope to her cellmate who'd been tortured by Voldemort.

4 "Wit Beyond Measure Is Man's Greatest Treasure"

Despite her sometimes wacky demeanor, Luna was a wise and powerful Ravenclaw who always looked beyond the obvious and provided an insightful perspective. When she was first introduced by Ginny, Luna immediately quoted Rowena Ravenclaw's motto, proudly representing her Hogwarts house.

In Deathly Hallows, Luna was also instrumental to finding Ravenclaw's Lost Diadem, which Voldemort had turned into a Horcrux. Luna took Harry to her house's common room and showed him a replica that gave him an idea of what he was looking for. In the movie, she also suggested he talk to Ravenclaw house's ghost, the Grey Lady.

Luna always had great empathy and love for all kinds of magical creatures. When Luna met Dobby, she treated him like an equal rather than a lesser being, showing him respect and even calling him 'sir'. Unfortunately, their friendship was short-lived as Dobby was killed by Bellatrix soon after.

While a devastated Harry held onto Dobby's lifeless body, Luna approached Dobby and closed the house-elf's eyes so that he appeared to be in deep sleep. During Dobby's small funeral, Luna thanked him for helping them escape, called him brave and good, and hoped he'd be happy wherever he was.

2 "When You Say 'Sirius,' Are You Talking About Stubby Boardman?"

The quirkiest character in the Harry Potter series, Luna was known for her open mind and her lack of self-consciousness. Not only did she openly discuss her belief in conspiracy theories and mythical creatures (which often made her friends uncomfortable), but she also was unafraid of those who opposed her.

When Luna heard Harry mention his godfather, Sirius Black, she immediately recalled one of her father's articles in "The Quibbler." The tabloid claimed that Sirius was Stubby Boardman, the lead singer of an all-wizard rock band called The Hobgoblins. Since all Luna's friends were preoccupied with Sirius' possible kidnapping, no one replied to her.

1 "You're Just As Sane As I Am"

After witnessing Cedric's death at the end of Goblet of Fire, Harry returned to Hogwarts and was surprised by the strange, skeletal horses that pulled on carriages. No one but the bizarre Luna Lovegood seemed to see the horses. This made Harry feel vulnerable and uncomfortable, despite Luna's reassurance that both she and Harry could see the horses.

Initially confused by Luna's peculiarity, Harry slowly grew fond of Luna and began considering her one of his most reliable friends. Years down the line, Harry and Ginny would name their only daughter after Luna, showing how much they loved and appreciated Luna's friendship.
