Harry Potter was one of the most popular series of novels, and film series, ever released. The series follows the adventures of a boy named Harry Potter as he traverses the wizarding world and Hogwarts. The wizarding world is relatively simple morally; there are good wizards and bad wizards with very little nuance in between. This black and white morality is also apparent in the school's houses, one in particular.

Slytherin was a house created by Salazar Slytherin when Hogwarts was founded. He decreed his house would only allow Pureblood wizards and is considered the darkest of the four houses. This sentiment is reflected in the novels and movies where most characters from the house are either bullies, racists, or simply in league with the dark lord. However, having a fully evil house is a strange concept and doesn't fit with some of the explanations given by the characters. However, Hogwarts Legacy could change that.

Hogwarts Legacy Releasing After Fantastic Beasts 3

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that allows players to traverse through the world of Harry Potter and make their own choices. One fundamental aspect of the game will be entering a house in Hogwarts and making connections and friendships there. The concept of an RPG set in Hogwarts is one fans have been asking for for years. An RPG will allow the Wizarding world to be expanded upon in several ways, and Slytherin's reputation could be positively affected.

Because the novels and the films focus primarily on Harry Potter's journey, there isn't much attention paid to the members of other houses apart from when Harry encounters them. Harry is constantly harassed by Draco Malfoy and his cronies throughout most of his school life. This antagonism paints the Slytherin house as being full of bullies and thugs. Later it is revealed that a number of the Slytherin students have parents in the Death Eaters, and they are noticeably absent from the final battle for Hogwarts. However, having students be bad makes for a strange concept. Why even have such a house if all the evil wizards come from there?

The novels try to fix this issue by mentioning that there are evil wizards from other houses and that some truly great wizards came from Slytherin. However, it doesn't solve the initial experiences and problems that the audience is introduced to. Having players join Slytherin and experience life in the troubled house would be one way to solve this, though. Players would be able to meet different characters with different stories. This could help break the stigma, give more character to the houses, and allow players to explore more than the singular focus of the movies and books.

Hogwarts Legacy is a game that holds a lot of promise for fans and newcomers alike. However, for the game to work, it needs to show both new and old concepts. Ideally, the game will introduce players to new aspects while retaining the things that fans love. The developers have the chance to show fans a new side of many different aspects of the world of Harry Potter and, hopefully, they can deliver.
