Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint reunite in a new still image from the upcoming special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which is due to hit HBO Max on New Year's Day.

The image sees Radcliffe, Watson and Grint -- who played Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, in all eight entries in the original Harry Potter film series -- sitting opposite each other in what appears to be a recreation of the Gryffindor common room.

In addition to Radcliffe, Watson and Grint, HBO Max's Harry Potter special promises to feature "other esteemed cast members and filmmakers across all eight Harry Potter films," including Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), Oliver Phelps (George Weasley), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), among others.

As the title implies, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts celebrates the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (originally titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), which first hit theaters in November of 2001. This retrospective special will "tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time."

Written by J.K. Rowling, the original novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was first published in 1997. Rowling would go on to author six sequels through 2007, with Warner Bros. Pictures adapting the seven total Harry Potter books into eight feature films starring Radcliffe, Watson and Grint as the core trio from 2001 to 2011. In 2016, Warner Bros. released Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first in a planned pentalogy of Harry Potter spinoff/prequel films.

Since Harry Potter ended in 2011, Radcliffe, Watson and Grint have continued to act. Over the last several years, Radcliffe has appeared in such films as The F Word, Victor Frankenstein and Guns Akimbo, not to mention the ongoing television series Miracle Workers. Watson, meanwhile, has starred in films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beauty and the Beast and Little Women. Grint's post-Harry Potter work includes films like CBGB and Moonwalkers, as well as TV shows like The ABC Murders and Servant.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts premieres on HBO Max on Jan. 1, 2022.
