Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has opened up about something that affects a lot of actors who try to handle celebrity. Overwhelmed by all the attention thrust on him from a young age, he admits he turned to alcohol.

Living in his own head, being one of the biggest stars in the world got to him, the actor reflected on The Off Camera Show. Feeling like he was being watched when he went out, especially to pubs, the easiest way to take the edge off was to hit the bottle and "to get very drunk."

The irony was people really started to take notice the more he drank. "Then as you get very drunk, you become aware, ‘Oh, people are watching more now because now I’m getting very drunk, so I should probably drink more to ignore that more,’" Radcliffe admitted. "It can affect your psyche."

And the big effect on him was mental, much more than his drinking getting out of hand. Thankfully, he was able to keep that in check and show up for work.

While he might not have understood how to handle fame, Radcliffe reveals it made him question how he was living, but he could always return to the set because he loved the work, and still does. "The thing I'm so lucky about is I love it," said Radcliffe. "I love the work, and that's the thing I ultimately come back to."
