Chris Columbus, the director of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, revealed which scenes he had the most trouble filming in the first movie of the series.

In the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunion special, Columbus revealed the scenes where Harry played Quidditch were the most difficult to direct. This was especially so as it was the first time the sport was featured in the films and thus, audiences needed to be introduced to the game. "The audience had to understand the rules immediately. So [J.K Rowling] basically did a rulebook for us, a Quidditch rulebook, explaining every detail of the game," Columbus said. "Then Stuart Craig, our production designer, designed the look of the quidditch pitch and really created a pitch that felt authentic and real for a game that is completely unreal."

Those efforts were evidently not in vain, as Harry's first Quidditch game remains one of the most iconic moments in the franchise, even after 20 years. It also served as a launching point for a real-life version of the sport to be developed. Commonly referred to as "muggle quidditch," two teams of seven players mount themselves on (non-flying) broomsticks as seekers, and -- much like in the fictional Quidditch -- try to snatch up the coveted snitch to win the game.

"Muggle quidditch" has even spawned leagues, but U.S. Quidditch and Major League Quidditch, the most famous leagues in the sport, stated a desire to change the name of the game due to the accusations against Rowling that she holds transphobic views.

Further insight into what happened behind the scenes in the beloved movie franchise can be found in Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which was released on HBO Max on Jan. 1. The TV reunion special gathers the cast and crew of the Harry Potter movies to celebrate the series' legacy more than two decades after the initial release of the first film.

Rowling, however, is noticeably absent from the special, with her appearances limited to archival footage only. While it was speculated that the Harry Potter author had not participated due to the controversies surrounding her, it was later confirmed by her team that she merely declined the invitation to do new interviews for the special.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is available for streaming on HBO Max.
