Harrison Ford Unseats Samuel L. Jackson As Highest-Grossing Actor in U.S. Box Office History

The record-smashing performance of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has pushed Harrison Ford past Samuel L. Jackson to become the top-grossing actor in domestic box office history.

That's according to Box Office Mojo, which calculates that Ford's 41 films have grossed a combined $4.699 billion in North America, led by the $764.4 million (and counting) domestic haul of "The Force Awakens." Jackson's 68 films, meanwhile, have brought in $4.626 billion, with the domestic total of Marvel's "The Avengers" accounting for $623.4 million of that.

Jackson was declared by Guinness World Records as the highest-grossing movie actor of all time in 2011, even before the release of "The Avengers."

The prolific actor recalled earlier this week that George Lucas predicted before the release of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" that Jackson would surpass Ford's box-office record. But while Ford has taken that title back, the two may be playing leap-frog for a while: Jackson has films like "The Legend of Tarzan" and "Kong: Skull Island" in the pipeline, while Ford has sequels to "Blade Runner" and "Indiana Jones" to look forward to.
