Harrison Ford congratulated Ke Huy Quan, his one-time Indiana Jones co-star, on the actor's recent Oscar nomination.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Ford shared nothing but kind words about Quan, who starred alongside him as Short Round in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. "I'm so happy for him. He's a great guy," said Ford. "He's a wonderful actor. He was when he was a little kid, and he still is. I'm glad. I'm very happy for him." After a 20-year acting hiatus, Quan scored an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Child Star of Temple of Doom and The Goonies
While Quan made his film debut in the second Indiana Jones film, he also played Richard "Data" Wang in 1985's The Goonies. Quan, now 51 years old, credits Steven Spielberg for establishing his place in the film industry, and made sure to thank the director at the 2023 Golden Globes ceremony after winning Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once. This accomplishment makes Quan the second actor of Asian descent to succeed in the category, following Haing S. Igor for 1985's The Killing Fields.
In addition to the Golden Globes, Quan also prevailed at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards. At the ceremony, he reunited with Brendan Fraser to congratulate The Mummy star on his Best Actor win for The Whale. Previously, Quan and Fraser starred together in the 1992 teen comedy Encino Man, the last time the two actors saw each other.
Ke Huy Quan's Latest Projects
Following Quan's tenure as a child actor, he struggled to find work in the film industry. Inspired by the success of Crazy Rich Asians, Quan reentered the spotlight with his role as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Jeff Cohen, his Goonies co-star, helped land him the part in the 2022 absurdist film. "When the producer of Everything Everywhere All at Once was trying to make my deal, he said he never imagined that he'd have to talk to Chunk and Data for his movie," said Quan.
In addition to Everything Everywhere, Quan will play an undisclosed character in the second season of the Disney+ series Loki. The Temple of Doom actor also stars opposite his Everything Everywhere co-star Michelle Yeoh in American Born Chinese. Based on Gene Luen Yang's 2006 graphic novel with the same title, American Born Chinese incorporates elements of ancient Chinese mythology and figures in classic fairytales, including Cinderella and The Little Mermaid.
Everything Everywhere All at Once is available to stream on Showtime and Paramount+. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom can be streamed on Prime Video and Paramount+.
