With Harrison Ford prepping to once again don his iconic fedora as the intrepid adventurer Indiana Jones, fan expectation is high for the fifth movie, especially given the mixed reception to his last outing in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Acknowledging this, Ford claims the production wouldn't exist unless he was confident the film could "kill it" in the same manner as Marvel Studios.

"I don't really want to give them what they want to see, I want to give them something they didn't anticipate," Ford told HeyUGuys. "They are used to a degree of disappointment when you revisit. Certainly, the Marvel movies have made a spectacular example of a success of worked the other way around, they killed it!"

"Well, we're not going to make another Indiana Jones unless we are in a position to kill it," he continued. "We want it to be the best. We've got some scheduling issues and a few script things to do but we are determined to get it right before we get it made."

Given how Crystal Skull ended, with Jones seemingly passing the torch to his son Mutt, it appears as though this new film won't be following that narrative path, instead tying into Ford's intentions to deliver something unexpected.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford, the yet-to-be-titled Indiana Jones 5 arrives in theaters July 9, 2021.
