Gwyneth Paltrow has received significant ridicule because of her apparent inability to recall which Marvel Cinematic Universe films in which she’s appeared or the actors with whom she's worked -- and Harrison Ford may very well be her equivalent in the Star Wars franchise. The 77-year-old actor has portrayed iconic antihero Han Solo since the 1977 original film, but his knowledge about the series doesn’t appear to extend beyond his script pages. Granted, he doesn’t need to have an an encyclopedic knowledge of the galaxy far. However, given his long history with the franchise, it may seem curious he doesn’t know much about Star Wars, or, for that matter, care about it.

Here are some instances of Ford displaying Paltrow-isms in regard to the Star Wars universe.

He Doesn’t Care Who Shot First

Han Solo and Greedo face off in the Cantina in Star Wars

There have been a plethora of scenes from the original Star Wars trilogy that have been modified over the years, and perhaps the most controversial is the scene between Greedo and Han Solo in A New Hope. In the original version, it appeared that Han Solo shot the Rodian bounty hunter Greedo before he was even able to get a shot in, but this was altered for the Special Edition version. In this “update,” we now clearly see Greedo shoot first, while Han dodges at point-blank range and then blasts his foe to death.

Fans of the original were furious about this change, as it made Han look like less of a bad-ass, and also it was absurd to see him dodge a blast at such close proximity. Harrison Ford took to Reddit five years ago to answer some fan questions. Of course, someone brought up who he believed shot first.

Ford’s response: "I don't know and I don't care."

He Confused Kryptonite and Carbonite

One of the most emotionally devastating moments in the entire Star Wars series was when Harrison Ford was frozen in carbonite in The Empire Strikes Back. To see one of our most beloved characters encased in stone with an uncertain fate certainly added to the gravity of the film, which is still regularly considered the series’ best. The fictionalized liquid substance became an important area of the Star Wars lexicon -- too bad Harrison Ford fumbled the name.

In a recent interview with entertainment journalist Jake Hamilton, in promotion for Ford’s new movie The Call of the Wild, the topic of Star Wars was inevitably brought up. Hamilton asked Ford how he came up with the favored “I love you” line to Princess Leia in The Empire Strikes Back. In the discussion, Ford said the catalyst was that Han Solo was about to be frozen in Kryptonite.

Yes, it would appear that Ford mixed up franchises, and replaced a Star Wars intellectual property with one of Superman’s. Hamilton did indeed correct him, and Harrison responded with a deep sigh, and replied with this, “Kryptonite, carbonite. I just work here.” The exchange tickled Hamilton so much though, that he quickly posted the exchange on his Twitter.

He Doesn't Know, or Care, What a Force Ghost Is

Han-Solo

The Rise of Skywalker certainly had quite a lot of unexpected plot decisions in it, and not the least of which was the return of Han Solo. After being struck through the chest by Kylo Ren’s lightsaber in The Force Awakens, it was looking unlikely that Ford would ever portray the beloved rogue again. Still, he rather inexplicably reprised his role for the latest Star Wars film, and, no, he doesn’t seem to have much of a clue about how it works either.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Ford reveals he was shocked when J.J. Abrams asked him to return but agreed to do it because he felt it was important for the Kylo Ren’s character development and wanted to work with Driver again. When asked if Solo potentially returned as a Force Ghost (an ability typically reserved for the Jedi in Star Wars canon), Ford responded as such: "Don’t tell anyone. I’m not talking loud enough for your recorder. I have no f***ing idea what a Force ghost is. And I don’t care!"

While Ford’s relationship towards Star Wars has been a bit curmudgeonly as of late, it’s also reasonable why he isn’t as knowledgeable on the franchise as a lot of its fans would hope for. For one, at 77, he isn’t exactly the franchise’s target audience, and he’s done a lot more than just Star Wars in his lengthy career. While fans can argue that Ford should know the difference between a Jawa and an Ewok, it actually is a bit fitting for the Han Solo actor. Just like our beloved smuggler, Ford makes his own rules and values about the universe.
