AppleTV+ has released the first trailer for the animated series Harriet the Spy, the first animated adaptation of the popular children's novel.

The trailer takes viewers back to the 1960s Manhattan of the original novel, where 11-year-old Harriet M. Welsch (Beanie Feldstein) hones her craft as a writer by spying on the goings-on of her Upper East Side neighborhood. With the encouragement of her nanny "Ole Golly" (Jane Lynch) and the help of her best friends, Harriet investigates a big story while navigating the perils of being a preteen.

Written by Louise Fitzhugh, Harriet the Spy was originally released in 1964 and has since been considered a classic of American children's literature. The book inspired multiple sequels (only the first of which, 1965's The Long Secret, was written by Fitzhugh) and has been adapted to screens before. The 1996 feature of the same name was notable for being the first film released by Nickelodeon Movies, while the 2010 feature -- given the subtitle Blog Wars -- aired on the Disney Channel.

The synopsis for Harriet the Spy states that if Harriet wants to be a good writer, she'll need to know everything. And to know everything means she'll need to spy… on everyone.

The first five episodes of the series will be available to stream on Nov. 19 on AppleTV+. The second half of the series will air in Spring 2022.
