WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 1, streaming now on DC Universe.

The DC Universe's Harley Quinn has been just as much about her ragtag crew of misfits as it's been about her. Poison Ivy, Dr. Psycho, Clayface and King Shark have been crucial in helping Harley move away mentally from Joker, although she's relapsed recently as his ambitions to take the Legion of Doom to the next level got the best of her.

However, in "Devil's Snare," after spurning her once more, Joker doesn't just strike a major blow at the heart of Harley and Gotham City, he actually betrays the Legion.

When Scarecrow's killer-trees run amok, Harley and Co. find themselves outnumbered. Batman's taken out of commission by Scarecrow while the Queen of Fables follows up on her threat a couple of episodes ago and goes after Harley's crew. The villain traps the Justice League in a book of fairytales before sending Team Harley up a beanstalk for a giant to murder. She warned Harley after being kicked out her squad she'd get her revenge and the Queen makes it clear she's going to pounce with Gotham in disarray.

Luckily, Harley's crew is rescued by Kite Man and they're flown to Gotham. Thinking the Legion's responsible for Scarecrow's actions, Harley goes to blow their headquarters up but just as she's about to do so, Joker's Clown Tower rises up from the ground and destroys the base. He wants to rule it without the Legion around, calling his former comrades spineless and obstacles as he wants to show everyone who's boss. It's not even a civil war, it's an all-out coup.

The clown begins firing on Gotham for kicks, reminding Harley he was always the king and always will be. It's still a mystery if he was Scarecrow's partner or he's just being opportunistic but nonetheless, the clown has a new partner and ironically, she's the queen to his king. That's right, Joker's mystery partner is the Queen of Fables, who brokered a secret deal with him after Harley booted her for being too extreme. The Queen was his trump card to throwing the League into another dimension but Joker still doesn't think she's his ultimate ace-in-the-hole after she misses her chance to kill Harley.

The Queen thought it'd be more fun if the giant ripped them apart so Joker sends her down to ground zero to finish the job. He's angry because while she helped him create his tower and smash the Legion's symbol to pieces, all he asked was this one little task. The Queen steps up because she wants to please Joker but when Harley confronts her with her trusty old bat, the jester smashes the Queen's head off. It's a bloody ending but Joker couldn't care less.

He's overthrown the Legion in style and has Harley's forces right where he wants them -- and that's all that matters, not trivial casualties. It's a big victory as he's controlling the chessboard but it remains to be seen which members of the Legion will seek revenge. They won't take lightly to being ousted like this and in doing so, Joker might have created enemies way worse than Team Harley ever could be. In fact, Harley and her posse might even join up with the Legion once more to solve this problem.

DC Universe's Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and J.B. Smoove. New episodes are released on Fridays.
