HBO Max recently offered a sneak peek at Season 4 of the hit animated superhero TV show, Harley Quinn, which once again sees the titular character get involved in her fair share of misadventures.HBO Max unveiled its lineup of originals and returning series for the New Year. Among them was a preview of Harley Quinn Season 4 featuring Harley taking a ride with the Joker and some vicious-looking dogs in the streets. The return of the action show was confirmed alongside other familiar shows, including Succession, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty and True Detective: Night Country, and debuting series such as The Last of Us, The Idol and Velma. No specific date has been announced for when Season 4 begins airing.
The upcoming season of Harley Quinn was confirmed this past August, a month after Season 3 premiered. The first two seasons of the animated series aired in 2019 and 2020 on the now-defunct DC Universe streaming service before heading over to HBO Max for Season 3 and beyond. The Season 3 finale introduced seismic shifts between Harley, Poison Ivy and the Bat-Family, shaping up potential turbulence in upcoming episodes. It also saw a close to the trauma Bruce Wayne suffered, possibly leading to a healed and healthy Batman appearing in the new season.
In addition to Season 4 coming in 2023, a standalone episode of Harley Quinn will premiere in February 2023 titled "Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special." HBO Max announced the 44-minute-long episode last October. It will see Harley and Poison Ivy spend their first Valentine's Day together while also following the adventures of the Bat-Family for the special occasion.
Harley Quinn stars 8 Simple Rules and Charmed actor Kaley Cuoco as Harley and Boston Legal's Lake Bell as Poison Ivy. The cast also involves I, Robot actor Alan Tudyk as Joker, BoJack Horseman, Hoops' Ron Funchess as King Shark and Arrested Development star Tony Hale as Doctor Psycho. Justin Halpern, Dean Lorey and Patrick Schumacker co-wrote and executive produce the series which is based on the DC character of the same name, created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm.
The series creators have expressed hope for an extended run that goes well past Season 4. Harley Quinn has earned widespread acclaim for its R-rated humor and ideal comic book deconstructionism, as well as the quality of animation and the portrayal of its main protagonists.
Harley Quinn is available for streaming on HBO Max. Season 4 is scheduled to be released some time in 2023.
