Justin Halpern, executive producer on DC Universe's Harley Quinn , confirmed at DC FanDome that if the show is renewed for a third season on HBO Max, he hopes to further develop Harley and Poison Ivy's romance.

During Harley Quinn's DC FanDome panel, Halpern revealed that Season 3 would explore the aftermath of Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Ivy (Lake Bell) finally becoming an item after multiple "will they/won’t they" interactions and affairs. "We want to focus on Harley and Ivy's relationship," Halpern said. "I’m less interested in if the Joker gets a new girlfriend or not than I am in [deepening] this relationship that we've spent two years building."

Cuoco and Bell also discussed what it was like creating "Harlivy" in a recording booth. Bell described the experience as "unusual because we're not in the room together, and so we kind of like fall in love with each other through this weird virtual experience." Cuoco similarly described it as "amazing to have that back and forth and not be together, for all of us, like, the show plays as if we're all in the same room. It’s pretty impressive that we're all there together and none of us have ever really done that with each other, so it's pretty impressive how it ends up."

Harley and Ivy's romance in the animated series wasn't confirmed until midway through Season 2, when the characters finally shared a kiss. Despite being engaged to Kite Man, Ivy found herself gaining romantic feelings for Harley but remained conflicted on pursuing either relationship. In the Season 2 finale, Kite Man broke things off with Ivy after realizing her heart wasn't in it and belonged to another. The last fans saw of "Harlivy" were the two of them escaping Ivy's wedding in the "Just Married" car, kissing one another as they drove off into the sunset.

DC Universe's Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and J.B. Smoove. Both seasons of the show are available to stream on DC Universe and HBO Max.
