This news comes after confirmation from WarnerMedia that the third season of the DC animated series would release on HBO Max sometime in July. Showrunner Patrick Schumacker also teased that a significant announcement regarding Harley Quinn would come on June 28. While, at the time, the nature of the announcement remained unclear, Schumacker had shared an image of Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn wearing owl masks, indicating the involvement of the Court of Owls in the upcoming season.

HarlIvy Is Ready For Season 3

Harley Quinn officially completed its first audio mix for Season 3 in March, almost a year after the HBO Max series officially began recording the third season in February 2021. A first look at Season 3 was unveiled during DC FanDome 2021, which included a voice-over and unfinished animation, as well as a full-color look at Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The series also released a six-issue tie-in comic titled Harley Quinn: The Animated Series - The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour, meant to fill the gap between Season 2 and 3. Written by Tee Franklin, drawn by Max Sarin, colored by Marissa Louise, and lettering by Taylor Esposito, the comic follows Harley and Poison Ivy on the road trip of a lifetime after the show's climactic Season 2 finale.

Developed by Schumacker, Halpern and Dean Lorey, Harley Quinn: The Animated Series stars Cuoco as Harley Quinn and Lake Bell as Poison Ivy. The first two seasons of Harley Quinn originally premiered on the DC Universe streaming service. However, amid the restructuring of DC Universe, both seasons were added to HBO Max in August of 2020. Soon after, it was announced that Season 3 would premiere exclusively on HBO Max.

In a 2020 interview, Schumacker and co-showrunner Justin Halpern explained that Season 3 would focus on toxic relationships and deal heavily with Harley and Ivy's newfound romance. "That's the big thing for us to chew on," Halpern said at the time. "The thing we have discussed preliminarily is the idea that these two characters have had a lot of toxic relationships in their past. Although Ivy and Kite Man wasn't toxic, it also wasn't an equal relationship, you know? He loved her a lot more than she loved him."

The 10-episode third season of Harley Quinn will release on HBO Max.
