We all go a little mad sometimes.

Harley Quinn executive producer and head writer Justin Halpern has confirmed that the classic Batman rogue known as the Mad Hatter will make an appearance when DC's acclaimed adult animated series returns for Season 3 on HBO Max. "The Mad Hatter's in this season," Halpern said during an appearance on the Masters of None podcast. "He's a villain in one of the episodes, I will give that away."

Based on the Hatter from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Jervis Tetch/the Mad Hatter was created by Bill Finger and Lew Sayre Schwartz from a concept by Bob Kane, with the villain first appearing in 1948's Batman #49. The Mad Hatter has made numerous animated appearances in the past -- including in Batman: The Animated Series -- with live-action incarnations appearing in Batman '66 and Gotham. The villain is also a recurring figure in Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series of video games.

Harley Quinn premiered its first season on the DC Universe streaming service on Nov. 29, 2019, with Season 2 arriving on April 3, 2020. HBO Max picked up Harley Quinn for a third season following the restructuring of DC Universe, with the show becoming exclusive to the new platform. Justin Halpern's co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker recently revealed that the voice recording process for Season 3 was underway. Halpern says he expects Season 3 to premiere either late this year or early next year.
