Fans of the clown princess of crime just got their first look at unfinished animation from the upcoming third season of Harley Quinn. The final episode of the previous season, "Something Borrowed, Something Green," released on June 26, 2020. The episode saw Kite Man break off his engagement with Poison Ivy after their wedding day goes disastrously awry, with Ivy confessing her true feelings for Harley after that moment. Since then, fans have eagerly been anticipating a third season after it was confirmed last year, finally getting more information and a look at what is to come.RELATED: Marvel Studios Recruits Harley Quinn Storyboard Artist to Direct Mystery Project

Since the conclusion of Season 2, there has actually been more Harley Quinn content to hold fans over until the next season. A tie-in comic series, Harley Quinn: The Animated Series - The Eat, Bang, Kill Tour, has been releasing issues digitally on DC Universe Infinite and in print monthly. The title follows Harley and Ivy on a road trip after they drove off together in the Season 2 finale.

In the series, the couple is chased by Commissioner Gordon, the two frequently evading capture and interacting with other characters like Catwoman and Hush, the villain not seen previously in the show. Also introduced into the world of Harley Quinn through the comics was Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing, never seen in the show but appearing in the comic series' third issue. The only Bat Family characters seen in the show include Batman, Robin, Batgirl and Alfred Pennyworth, though members of the Justice League, like Superman and Wonder Woman, have also appeared.

The series has also featured many Batman rogues like Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze (now dead), Scarecrow (also dead), Bane and Two-Face, the second season revolving around how they laid claim to Gotham and broke the city up into territories following the fall of Joker and Batman in the Season 1 finale. Season 3 promises to introduce the Mad Hatter, the mind-controlling, Alice in Wonderland-obsessed villain from the comics. The last story to see Harley and Ivy interact with Mad Hatter in the comics was the limited series Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy, which similarly featured the two on a road trip, but trying to evade the Floronic Man as opposed to Commissioner Gordon.

According to showrunners, the series' third season will focus heavily on Harley and Ivy's relationship, as well as themes like surviving toxic relationships and even exploring more of Ivy's perspective on things. Starring the voice acting talents of Kaley Cuoco (Harley Quinn), Lake Bell (Poison Ivy) Alan Tudyk (Clayface/Joker), Ron Funches (King Shark) and more, Harley Quinn Season 3 is expected to release on HBO Max in 2022.
